VIC - Monday Night Hitting & Annual Champs

November 3, 2009
Do you feel like some tennis?  Are you looking for a great way to enjoy the warm evenings, get fit, have fun, improve your skills?!

We are running our Monday night hitting program through November and December.  We will be hitting at Nottinghill Pinewood Tennis Club.  This venue is very close to the Monash Freeway (Blackburn Road exit) and is easily accessed by car.  Activities will be a mix of hitting, drills, coaching and competitive play.  If this is popular we will take a break over Christmas, then start again early next year.

On Monday nights, as well as the hitting program we are holding our annual champs for males and females (juniors welcome).  A challenger format will be used, so most of your sets should be against players of a similar standard.  If you want to play but you can't make it on Mondays, let us know and we will organise some challenges for you at an alternative time (e.g. another night or on the weekend).

VIC Come 'n Try Day Report

October 11, 2009
On Sunday Oct 11 our Victoria-based players (VDTA) hosted a Come 'n Try Day at Melbourne Park.  Many thanks to the 10 attendees who helped make it a fun afternoon.  There was a big mix of ages from 6 though to 40, and it certainly seemed like everyone was getting into it and hitting some balls!  Stephen Swann was on hand to talk about about his success in the Men's Doubles at the Deaflympics in Taipie, and there were many helpers to help him hold his (suprisingly heavy) silver medal!

A couple of our volunteer coaches did a short "Orientation to Coaching" course with Tennis Australia in the morning and were up to speed with the latest and greatest activities to help people (especiallythe younger kids using modified equipment) get their first taste of tennis.  This went really well - thanks to DSA for helping organise funds to support this.  Thanks also to Tennis Australia / Victoria for the loan of some modified equipment, and providing a few giveaways for the kids.
